Interesting facts
The Max Eden Bursary has been named in honour of the late Max Eden, who was a much-loved committee member and character of the local AusIMM branch. As a qualified mining engineer, he established a family-operated alluvial tin operation in the Far North Queensland region following his early years with MIM Holdings Ltd. Unfortunately for his family and the mining industry, Max died suddenly at a young age. The Bursary has been operating for more than 20 years with many successful applicants now occupying responsible positions within the resources sector. Funds to establish this Bursary were obtained from a very successful heap leaching conference run in Cairns by the local Branch in the mid-1980s.
